I am currently looking for a language to study and would like suggestions considering my interest in music.

Music is an important aspect for me in language learning. Knowing a language makes me interested in the culture and in discovering music, and then these discoveries motivate me to learn more, and help as well!

So which language has a lot ( in terms of quantity, quality, diversity) of music, with varying degrees of traditional and modern influences? (outside of French, English, Spanish and Portuguese). My first guess would be German, since it is spoken by many and would have good producing standards being spoken in well-developped countries. I am not a big fan of electronic nor industrial (yet?) though, and all I heard in German seemed to fit those genres.

So which countries/languages have a musical scene you find particularly interesting? Any input will be appreciated!

Classical Chinese is wonderful, Korean pop has some Western influences but still has a relatively different feel and sound, and who doesn't love Bollywood?! :P

Anyways, there's obviously sooo much that I haven't mentioned, but that's some of what came to my mind when answering your question.

I think all countries have a lot of music, you just have to discover it. I've always liked Czech music because my grandfather had a lot of Czech records but there probably aren't many people outside Czech Republic who could name just one Czech artist. I like Lucie Bílá a lot, she has got an amazing voice.

If you're in to classical music I would say either Russian or German

It depends of what kind of music you like, for heavy metal, that's Finnish for sure...

Well, it kind of depends on who you listen to and what subgenre you listen to. Black metal is famously Norwegian, a lot of power metal is from Germany, and folk metal could be any language - from Dutch to Finnish to Russian and beyond!

I can't speak any languages from the Indian sub-continent but some lovely music is produced in these languages and I am not talking about Bollywood. For example,

Gulam Ali

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIFiSdIELVo

Nina Virdee

The styles and forms of classical music from around India are vast but I hope that those give some pleasure.

Pardon my ignorance if I am wrong but I think the first two are Urdu and the third is in Gujarati.
