Is there a difference in learning a language between people who watch subtitled movies/soaps and people who watch dubbed movies/soaps?

Dubbed/subtitled into which language?
I'm sure that part of my English skills derives from watching English language TV and movies with Swedish subtitles (the standard procedure here in Sweden). I have actually heard the spoken language (and for that matter, been able to connect the audio with what I read). In some countries they generally dub anything into their own native tongue, so compared to them - I think I have an advantage (in English).
Now, if I should watch something dubbed into German (or with German original dialogue) and/or subtitles in English or Swedish - or something in English/Swedish but with German subtitles - I'm sure I'd learn more from the German audio.

It's easy to underestimate how much paying attention to subtitles takes away from your ability to listen. If you're reading closed captioning, I assume you lose just as much, but you're reading the actual language.
The problem is that, depending on the language, dubbed shows can be hard to find. Otherwise, that's what I'd be watching all the time.
