I just came across the following website: www.conversationexchange.com. Has anyone used
this before for practicing? I'm working temporarily in Miami and thought I'd try to find
someone to converse with in Spanish, but I've heard mixed reviews about language exchange
websites. I've also heard of www.mylanguageexchange.com. Any recommendations? I
apologize if I've posted this in the wrong section.

I think conversationexchange is okay. What it has over other web sites such as lenguajero is that it is organized down to the city level which helps if you are seeking in-person conversation exchanges. Otherwise, it supports the setting up of skype or MSN on-line conversations. I think when I signed up that within 2 days I had been invited by 5-6 potential conversation partners for skype. The sites I would recommend for seeking conversation exchanges are:
1. lenguajero (Spanish/English only)
2. sharedtalk
3. converationexchange

I've used that site to find Mandarin speakers and I had quite a large amount of success
with it, at least in comparison to other similar websites.
My advice though is, as soon as you find a good speaker who you get along with, take your
exchange advertisement down, as you will keep getting lots of replies everyday.

I haven't used any of these sites, but I heard a chat on the "voices en espagnol" podcast about "Mixxer" who's address is actually:
www.language-exchanges.org/
It sounded like it was quite promising. The owner/designer/whatever said he deliberatley didn't make the site too exciting looking, so only serious language learners were attracted and not people looking for a date.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I will definitely look at all of the websites.
I figured that some of them might be set up as dating or social networking sites, but it
sounds like there are some which are specifically for language practice. I expected it
would be easier to practice Spanish here, but it seems a lot of people
are bilingual and prefer English for shopping and such. I'll give one of these
sites a try...

They don't reply to me on conversationexchange.com. Even though I wrote to persons who wants to learn Hungarian, and who were online in the last 3 days. :(
Edit: On sharedtalk, however, one person contacted me even though I didn't send a message to her. :D

I highly recommend italki as well. It has a nice social site feeling and it's the owner of the site is Chinese, so it's best for Chinese learning. Some people contacted me on the first day, so I had great success with it. I even have an English partner. xD There are teachers as well, so it's good for beginners, too.
