I realize that it will be different for everyone, but maybe there are some things everyone has trouble with, and I was wondering if there was some sort of consistent thing that people had trouble with? For me, it isn't learning the vocabulary or grammar, I pick those up almost as soon as I'm told, or hear it/read it, or figure it out. My ears don't seem to want to cooperate with what my brain knows. I seem to need much much more listening time than I do reading, especially if the language is like French, with lots of nuances you just have to pay closer attention to than when reading. This is a general, what's tough for you question.

Keeping up with a routine without getting bored. The other thing is that we get tied down to many things and
may not always be able to find the time to study a language regularly. We may need to give up other less
important things in our schedule.

And persevering, once the initial enthusiasm has died down.

In general
1. Being patient: it takes time to learn.
2. Perseverance: it's so easy to give up
3. Respect your routine: stop changing it and start following it.
The other parts are easy compared to those ones.
