I want to learn Hebrew one day, so I was amazed when I saw that there might be some similarities to Japanese which I am currently learning.

sorry to disappoint you then :)

could have been pretty useful for me as well :), and another thing i might add - Hebrew has almost no intelligibility or overlapping with any other language - we can't even get arab which is supposedly the closest language to us (double meaning here :)).

Aramaic would likely be closer. Also some of the older Canaanite languages at least to the biblical form.

If you have a look at Arabic and Hebrew you find many cognate which always helps me learn.
