I have also been looking for this sans succès. In theory you could find (*cough* legal)
shows/movies which are available on a torrent which also have French subtitles available
from sites like opensubtitles.org

Anole thank you for the link. I don't see these streams having a captioning option, but
it is useful nonetheless.

Is it not possible to buy a region free dvd player or region free dvds?

Many dvd player models set their region according to the first dvd you play in them. Just buy a cheap player, order
a disk from amazon.fr and it will be set for good.

Jackpot! Good old Canadian dual-language cultural funding. The National Film Board of Canada
has no less than 119 French language videos (mostly full length) which are subtitled for the
hearing impaired.
Office National du Film du Canada

If you go to the search page and check off the box with a little ear next to it, you can
limit results to captioned films. For some reason, on the video play page, if you press
the caption button before hitting play I can't get it to start. But if you hit play first
(and full-screen if you want) then the caption button, it works fine.

The France24 Live Player has a word-for-word transcript scrolling right next to the video, with a little highlighter that moves through the text while the newscaster is speaking.

You could also buy DVD from Canada, Quebec. Most of them have French options like subtitles or voices. You will also receive the cover in french.

It may be costly to buy them new but I am sure you can find some really good deal on ebay.com or ebay.ca on used DVD. Also, if the seller don't want to ship to US (which is rare) but have amazing deals, contact him by email and most of the time they will make an exception. I did that a lot with ebay.com.

You may think about this option after you finish the videos from ONF because, let's be honest, it's a amazing free ressource.

I'd like to add something... the transcript looks weird, like it was generated by computer. The transcipts for Euronews videos are better, but not error-free:

ceux qui l’interrogeaient sur les causes de la marée noire son restés sur leur fin

should read:

sont restés sur leur faim ('they were disappointed").

Oh well, still useful.
