If you are learning Romanian, and not only, I would recommend the film "4 luni, 3 saptamani si 2 zile" ( 4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days), the winner of the Golden Palm at the Cannes Festival of 2007.
The film manages to perfectly illustrate Romania's capital, Bucharest during the Communist era, while presenting a delicate case widely met at that time. Abortion was illegal, unless it was done due to serious medical reasons.A young Romanian student becomes pregnant and decides not to keep the child, and to make an abortion. Her best friend is going to support her morally and financially, even though she's having problems herself.

I am back with other film recommendations.
This time, it is a site, not a single film. Here you can watch original Romanian films, like the one I mentioned above. It is actually a forum, where people can put links to online films, but I think that it's not very hard to get to see the film. And don't be scared by the pop-up which can appear. I know it's annoying, but it can be ignored.
Then, for not-so-advanced learners, Here is a Romanian-dubbed online cartoos site. You can select any cartoon you want from the first column on the left (the ones from the second column are in English) and let the fun (and the Romanian learning) begin!
Have fun!

That sounds worth checking out, and I see that it's available from Amazon. Do you know any other films you could recommend?

You can see 4,3,2 online here.
I would also reccomend California Dreamin' , the story of a Romanian girl that falls in love with an American student passing through her village.you have a link to it here.
Another one is When I want to whistle, I whistle, a film about the life in prison of a poor Romanian guy and his relationship with one of the Sociology students who came in the prison for studying. You can watch it here.
If you want to get a funny taste pf the Romanian communist life, you can watch Tales from the Golden Age, a miniseries that will surely bring a smile to your face, presenting the most unusual communist life legends. It can be watched here.
But if you want to see an older film, you can watch Ion or Morometii, both illustrating the life of the Romanian peasant. They are made after some really appreciated books here in Romania. Or you can choose any of the films directed by Sergiu Nicolaescu, he's the best Romanian director, and has produced even a lot of historical fillms.
