If anyone was as foolish as me and paid box office prices to see Salt (wretched movie, even if it is named after one of my favourite condiments), do you have any comments on Angelina Jolie's Russian?   I understand she worked with a dialect coach.

I'm curious about that movie....do you find it bad then?....is really she speaking Russian or someone is dubbing her?

Hi GauchoBoaCepa,

I may have overstated my view a touch by calling the movie "wretched", but I went expecting to like the movie and instead found it quite disappointing - it failed to live up to the potential offered by the premise and the actors involved, and it devolved essentially to an average action flick when it could easily have been more.

I understand that Angelina Jolie did indeed speak the Russian dialogue herself, and there were even some rumours about a romance between her and her language coach (I expect typical hollywood publicity nonsense).   I have read elsewhere that her accent was not bad, but have also read the comment (not mine but it sounds funny enough to pass along) that Jolie only does two accents well: Count Chocula and faux Brit.

My recommendation if you are looking for a good movie? Go see Inception - well worth seeing in a theatre rather than on DVD down the road.

as a friend of mine says, expectation is the frustration's mother.

anyway, thanks for your input, but I'm still thinking of checking it out later....they say Tom Cruise turned down Angelina Jolie's role because that reminds of his previous roles in Mission Impossible......did she have an affair with her language coach then?....even it's a pure rumour I'd like to be in his place...I'd die happy afterwards.....lol

I believe she's able to carry out a conversation without huge difficulties as in my opinion she's truly smart and seeks to know everything what happens worldwide.

I watched Salt today in the afternoon....it's not that bad at all....sometimes it's amusing to check out those movies involving old issues between Russia and US...but the final is kind of puzzling...I wonder if learning Russian, at least focusing on the film, was bloody hard for her.
