The problem would be splitting the airtime between multiple languages. As certain less popular languages get pushed to unsocial timeslots (while we're all at work or in bed), and we all resort to recording the programmes, we'll start to question why we need a "channel" at all -- after all, if no-one's watching "real-time", surely on-line distribution makes more sense? And then we get out of the idea of a "channel", because are you really going to pay a subscription to see all the material when only one language really interests you? And because it's a pay-per-view, the smaller languages don't get subsidised by the profitable ones and *poof*... you're left with a video-on-demand site for watching documentaries in English, French, Spanish, German and Chinese.

mysoju, dramacrazy, dramafever (they have a few Japanese dramas, mainly Korean), drama style, d-addicts, AM Addiction. All of these sites are Asian drama sites in general.

There used to be such as channel. It was called "The International Channel" and was available by satellite. However, it switched its format and its name to become AZN TV and now focuses on Asian and Asian-American culture.

Where are you getting your Japanese dramas?

The two main sources are mysoju for streams and d-addicts for torrents. You can also find
stuff on any of the Chinese streaming sites like Tudou and Youku.

Ditto that, for Japanese.

I am in two minds about a language channel - on the one hand, I think there is much in favour of having a language channel, a visual version of podcasts with appropriate level indicated, perhaps, and on the other I feel there would be many people like me who would get absorbed in the actual content, rather than using it for language learning as well. This can easily happen with some of the exquisitely made foreign language films, they become solely entertainment.

The Dutch educative program "TELEAC" offered every year some excellent language courses in a variety of languages. With these there were also some radio lessons and interesteds language learners could order the textbooks with the audio cassettes. The TV lessons occurred one a week.

For many years I can't receive the Dutch TV channel anymore, where "TELEAC" broadcasts these courses, so I am not informed about the present status of this language learning possibility.
