When you are immersed in something, it's all around you. Up, down; forward, back; left and right.
Conversation partners are great, but they're not immersion, because when you turn round, there's a different language. You can speak for an hour on Skype, but if you're in a Cybercafe in your home town, you'll be speaking your own language when you go to pay. That's not "immersion".
