I equally loved German from the moment I started learning it. That was quite a surprise for me, having struggled rather unwillingly through French and Irish at school. The other two languages which have given me a true 'buzz' (so far) are Russian and Italian. I found the relative complexity of Russian and it's tongue-twisting nature when compared to German really engaging while Italian won me over through it's different character. I found both quite easy to study alongside German - no interference. I think the main motivating factor for me however is an interest in the art and history of a country or region. Thanks for the extra suggestions- much appreciated.
I didn't want to be too blinkered, given the range of experience on this forum, in what language I chose for this first (and hopefully not last) 6 week challenge but I'm going to go with Gaelic for this one as you've pointed out that I do have a lot of resources at hand that I haven't perhaps appreciated before which seems like a good reason to me. @pandorasighs- I'm very glad to hear that someone else is enjoying it as much as I am.I do find it extremely interesting how certain languages might be a better mental 'fit' for someone over another. I don't know if that's actually true but you're a case in point. I'm off to read my Hector Hamster German book... 1 person has voted this message useful |
