I still hold it with the idea that there's a time and place for dialect, and one for standard language, and that sometimes it's okay to mix them but at other times the other person may think you're trying to speak standard language and failing. Some features that are very common in dialects are frowned upon in standard language situations, while others aren't even noticed. This particular feature is one that is taught in school as "wrong" and has been made fun of very publicly.
