I have used Colloquial's textbook, and I can recommend it - particularly because it gives you a lot of relevant idioms, which are very important in Icelandic. As for the dictionaries I didn't expect the three something --> Icelandic dictionaries to be of any value to caam-imt, but the point is that I chose to buy the Danish and the Swedish one instead of buying the English -> Icelandic dictionaries I saw in reykjavik. By the way, the best bookstore I saw in Reykjavik was Mál og Menning at Laugarvegin 18 (which also is an important publishing house), but there are a couple of others which also are worth visiting.
I don't have Stefan Einarsson's grammar, but it sounds like something I also might want/need to buy. Right now my best grammar by far is in Italian (!) - a pdf named something with Kennslub(ók) which once could be downloaded from a site named something like giuristdeparnasso. It has apparently been moved to a site called scribd where you have to be a member (but for free). However I would like also to have a real book. I like the dictionary, mostly because it's simply the best one available. Very concise and I haven't yet found a hole in its vocabulary. Then again, I only use it for modern texts and so on. I've also noticed that many many good resources that I've used along the way (more about that in my log) have been published by Mál og menning, so definitely go scour their shelves. If you're in Helsinki (I don't know which part of the country you're in) there's also the Norden library of Nordic Ministry Council that has resources for the learning of all nordic languages (even some Saami resources). 1 person has voted this message useful | |||
