Argh, I almost finished writing a long-ass post about my emotional associations with the various languages
I've studied, but then the connection on my tablet derped up and it got lost! It's almost 2AM now and I have
work tomorrow, so I'll consider trying to write it up again later, but for now I'll leave you all with a link to a
relevant article about a certain moribund language,
whose speakers are basically letting it go extinct and largely unrecorded because they "associate it with
difficult times".

I definitely form emotional connections between languages, people, and experiences. I
think that in some ways, it's impossible not to, since a language is such an essential
part of an association. Some people call German harsh, but it's the language in which a
boy first told me that he loved me, and he's the reason I learned it. In contrast, I
stopped learning Mandarin the moment my Chinese best friend abandoned me because every
word of it reminded me of her.

It's actually a pretty interesting subject. I wonder how many people have stopped
learning a language because of a negative experience?
