Nation does use 8000
words as the 98% benchmark, and Laufer confirms this number. Generally the 98% mark varies between 5,000 and 9,000 words, and this seems to be dependent on the corpus used for the frequency list. If your exposure is limited to relatively basic text, like tabloids or daily news, you could probably get away with 4-5k words as your 98% threshhold. 3 persons have voted this message useful | ||||||
