Hi ALL,
I am writing an essay about the effect of language on culture and somehow find it difficult to determine race and culture.Doesn't a particular culture produce a race?or otherwise. Pls shed some light, i am confused on how to draw the line.

You just have to look in your backyard. Malaysia.
There are several major races there yes? Malay, Chinese, and Indian (to generalise), but what is Malay culture?
My interpretation is that culture entails the national identity and is not restricted to ethnicity or religion, but includes things such as history, way of life, or even politics.

Thanks.
Well what about if i am writing about interracial misunderstanding in communication.Say i am writing about the cause for this misunderstanding is due to communication style between the French and American. Is it valid to say that Freanch and American are two different races.Or is it correct to say race are best describe as Asian, African, European.Probably i am confuse about the category.

Race is biological. Culture is behavioural.

Race is a bit of a touchy and hazy subject, although Captain Haddock is right about it being biological. The French and Americans are pretty much the same race if you take only the Caucasian ('white') population into account. Of course, both countries have sizeable populations of the other two main 'races', Negroid and Mongoloid (these are not my own words, these are the terms often used in race discussions). France and America would be better described as nations as both have a myriad of cultures living within them. There is not just one French or American culture.
Personally, I find the race discussion outdated and partly motivated by political or sociological agendas. The vast majority of people would not fall neatly into the three main branches anyway.

There is...which is why I find the whole 'race' issue a bit pointless in this day and age. :)

Erm... As far as I know we´re all part of the same species, not of the same race...
