I know this is a stupid topic (at least it's related), but I was just curious if I
was the only one that consumed large amounts of water while learning a
language. Of course you guys know that when you talk you lose moisture
from your body. So how much water do you drink in a session, an hour, or
whatever?
Me? I usually study for about 3-4 hours a day or more in German. All of it
with the FSI so I'm talking almost the entire time. Everytime I study my
throat gets really dry after like 20-30 minutes, and if I don't have a bottle of
water I start choking on everything I say. So yeah, I drink about 2 bottles
every hour. How about everyone else out there? Do you consume a lot of
water when you study and do you have throat drying problem too?

I have to drink large amounts of water also. I don't drink many fizzy drinks or coffee, just water or sometimes a flavoured type.
When I study though, I don't see much of an increase in how thirsty I am. However, I have something to drink nearby to quench my thirst.
Take a look at the sodium in your diet. I'm no expert on this, but the more salts you consume the more water you'll need to drink. It's especially bad with many processed foods at they have high sodium levels.

Yes definitely. Being British it is simply impossible for me to study
without a hot beverage every 30 minutes or so!
This is usually either a coffee, or a big cup of Rooibos tea (very
hydrating), but any type of tea will do...

I actually wonder if the amount of soda/pop/Coke whatever you would like to call it has had a negative impact on my concentration. Caffine is surely not good for one in large amounts, and I've wondered if it has affected my memory at times...Or maybe I'm just naturally absent minded.
I think it's a good question, actually, because to be effective learners, it's better to keep one in good shape, instead of going off of unhealthy fuel for the mind and body.
To simply answer your question: Not nearly enough. My dentist is probably not too bothered, though. :-)

Tap water galore.
The best and healthiest beverage is tap water.
