For those interested in learning Italian, there are two free online video courses with extra materials (transcripts, exercises etc.): I don’t remember having seen them mentioned on this forum before.
They are intended for false beginners—usually immigrants—as unfortunately users need to understand at least some Italian in order to navigate the websites which are entirely in that language.
The first one is called ‘L’italiano in famiglia’ and is sponsored by the city of Brescia. It has 20 episodes, each comprising a video which can be streamed or downloaded as a podcast, plus the episode transcript, a textbook and a workbook in pdf format.

The second one is called ‘In Italia’ and is a coproduction of the national broadcaster RAI and the Ministry of Education. There are three seasons (and presumably three levels as well) each with 20 episodes. For each episode there are a video with transcript, online exercises (called ‘Attività’) and grammatical and lexical explanations (‘Le parole dell’italiano’). As far as I can see the videos can only be streamed online and cannot be downloaded. According to the website, the videos last a total of 2400 minutes.

More links to other online materials can be found here:

and here:

but I cannot guarantee that all the links still work—both websites seem not to have been updated in a long while.

Thanks for the links,
Does anyone have any idea what these courses take you to on the CEFR scale. l'italiano
in famiglia has a page on cerficiation for when you have completed the course and it does
mention a1, a2 and b1 but I can't tell if it is simply listing some of the levels or
whether the course can take you through each level. I am currently using Assimil but I
have a lot of free time (but no funds for additional material such as books) so this
'french in action' style course may be useful since everything is free and on the site
and the episodes can actually be streamed from my phone.

Many thanks for these items (I found them via the "Quest for Italian Fluency" thread). It's great to find resources like this for Italian.
Incidentally, I've had a little play and I managed to download Episode 1 of Series 1 without any trouble using a command-line program called rtmpdump. There's probably a naming convention to the files that'll ease this somewhat and once I get a bit of spare time, I'll grab the lot and update this thread - at the moment though I'm having a ball with the Simpsons in French.
