This is from a German blog for interpreters, translators and linguists. The link is to "history". There are some particularly interesting things here, though you need a reading knowledge of German. The Nuremberg trials and the role of simultaneous interpreters; info about a man called the "general of interpreters" who translated for various Soviet leaders; a "dumb interpreter" - Stummer Dolmetsch - that is, a disk which could be rotated to translate German phrases into Russian, and was used by German troops in WW2 on the Eastern Front; a picture dictionary used by German troops in Afghanistan, and so on.
I have seen the rotating disk idea continued in products by the German firm Hueber Verlag.

Nothing new to add, but as this is an interesting site I will give it a bump.
There have also been some new articles posted on the site since I linked to it in January.
