I face everyday the hard challenge of talking to cousins and family who can only speak
the Lebanese Dialect of Arabic. We often have awkward encounters and end up not talking
to each other. I would really like to learn this particular dialect of Arabic since this
will aid me with my confidence and mentality in speaking to them and impressing them.

I have tried many things such as YouTube or books, but they are all either MSA (Modern
Standard Arabic) or too simple. I would like to speak it fluently and confidently as best
as I can.

Thanks in advance,
Matthew

Hi,

Going from easiest to hardest:
Pimsleur Eastern Arabic - not free
SyrianArabic.com - not free anymore
GLOSS Levantine (with audio, transcripts and translation) - free
YouTube series such as Beirut I Love You and Shankaboot with English subtitles -free
Shahid TV app for many MBC programmes - free
SBS radio -free

Thanks for your reply! I really like the 'Beirut I Love You' series. Are there any
resources that can teach you about grammar such as verbs and pronouns?

I would imagine Pimsleur and SyrianArabic.com would take you through the pronouns and verbs. There's
also a decent book called Colloqiual Arabic Levantine which could help. You might be able to get this and
Pimsleur from a library. I think it is important to listen and not just read, so if you se this book, you should get
the mp3 which accompanies it.

I am also having trouble understanding the concept of the Singular, Dual and Plural
classification. Are there any resources that will help me with that? The resources above
do not show me anything about it

There is a free DLI Syrian Arabic course:
https://jlu.wbtrain.com/sumtotal/language/DLI%20basic%20cour ses/Syrian%20Arabic/
Notice the space in the word "courses" in the url, close it,copy it and paste it in the
url, or just google "dli syrian arabic" like I did :)

Also, if you use pimsleur make sure the first level is second edition, because it won't
match up with level 2 and 3 otherwise.
