A real shame. Songlines and I never interacted much, but I always enjoyed reading her
contributions, and the thought of no more Songlines is a terrifying one. My condolences
to those who survive her.

Sad to hear this. We interacted a few times on the forum and she always seemed kind, helpful and supportive.

I don't think our paths ever crossed but I want to share the condolences of the HTLAL community to her family. We
may disagree on certain details but we share a great interest in language learning. It is always sad to lose one of us.

Sad news indeed. I don't think we interacted but I remember her from sctroyenne's log.

This is so sad and unexpected. Songlines was always a positive member of the forums;
I'll miss her.

The pictures on her web page showed a great eye and a gentle soul.

An excerpt from songline's obituary:

Pien's life-long passion for books led to a rewarding and fulfilling career as a librarian in Regina and then Toronto, but Vancouver was the hometown of her heart. Pien was an idealistic and sensitive soul with a droll sense of humour. She was passionate about books, film, travel, tea, cooking, photography, and bad puns. Pien was perpetually curious and uniquely cheerful, continually optimistic, and always appreciative of the simple pleasures of life. Her quiet wit, ready smile, and thoughtfulness in many small acts of simple kindness endeared her to all who knew her, and her generous and innocent spirit touched everyone she encountered.

For those of you who may be interested, details of the Vancouver memorial are available here:

I was so sad to learn of Songlines' passing... Her posts always conveyed a wonderful warmth and kindness, and she had an uncanny sense of humor! :) I'm personally indebted to her for her support here on the Forum over the years, making me smile or simply keep going on otherwise gray days, and in which capacity she felt more like family and will be sorely missed. Here is a collection of some of the amazing photos she took and shared with the world, which I hope will live on to inspire us for many years to come.
