There are some words in the Spanish bible that may not be used in everyday conversation; however, the grammar is still the same. I learned many tenses (especially past tense) by simply listening to the bible everyday for the last year. As Polyphemes said, the language is very simple and there are many cognates. In addition, if you’re familiar with the stories understanding becomes even easier. I chose this method because I find commercial products boring and I wanted to see results quickly. I gave myself an ultimatum and said if I did not understand basic conversational Spanish I would give up. I can happily say I have achieved my goal. This is one I use: Biblia De America Biblea De America And here is an app for it that includes the text of the New Testament being read aloud. I have the Nueva Version Internacional, the Dios Habla Hoy and the Nueva Vida. Those are in order from hardest to easiest (although the NVI is not extremely difficult). I like the DHH the best. The Nueva Vida is simple... written such basic Spanish that it sounds funny. There are free audio versions of the NVI and DHH (and many others).

I have found this website. http://www.bibleserver.com/text/NVI.NIV/Marcos1 I can read Bible parallel in languages of my choice on this site. I have decided to read Nueva Versión Internacional (Spanish) and New International Version (English). What do you think about this Spanish Bible - Nueva Versión Internacional ? Is it written in modern Latin American Spanish ? And is it a thought-for-thought translation, I mean, a meaning-based translation ? Thanks a lot. I have the paper bilingual version of the NVI/NIV. It is very nice. You can get it on Amazon for a reasonable price here.
I am not a Bible expert (so I don't mind being corrected), but I am pretty sure the NIV was based on a thought by thought translation and not a word for word translation. There is a full audio book available in Spanishi for the NVI. It has both the New and Old Testaments and you can find it available online. I forget where it is, but you can find a link somewhere on this site if you search (I cannot find it now). The narrator speaks very fast and I was not able to listen to it for too long. 1 person has voted this message useful |
