Thanks a lot for your time and for your recommendations.
I have found this website.
http://www.bibleserver.com/text/NVI.NIV/Marcos1
I can read Bible parallel in languages of my choice on this site.
I have decided to read Nueva Versión Internacional (Spanish) and New International Version (English).
What do you think about this Spanish Bible - Nueva Versión Internacional ?
Is it written in modern Latin American Spanish ?
And is it a thought-for-thought translation, I mean, a meaning-based translation ?
Thanks a lot. |

Glad to help. Here are two links from Wikipedia on the NIV and word-for-word versus thought-for-thought translations.
New International Version
Dynamic versus Formal Equivalence
Since the New International Version is considered to use "Moderate use of dynamic equivalence" I would think the same is true for the Nueva Versión Internacional. My only question would be this: Does the NVI use vosotros or ustedes for the second-person plural? In Latin America the ustedes is more common.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Tomás
As far as I have understood, New International Version (NIV) uses both thought-for-thought and word-for-word translation method equally.
Am I right ?
Thanks

I suggest using multiple translations of the Bible in your TL. That should pretty quickly bring you face to face with translation differences and "language limitations".

www.jw.org has materials in over 300 languages on it the majority of which are the same
in each language (mass translation). There are also audio recordings of huge numbers of
articles, so it's a veritable linguists' paradise.

I think there are no parallel Bibles on this site. Bible Server and Biblegateway are good choices for parallel Bibles.

That's true, but you could have two screens/tabs open or split screen, I suppose. Could
even have the audio of one language playing on one tab whilst reading along in another
language. Lots of possibilities.=)
