To whoever wants to address this (for lack of a better phrase)--
I was recently reading a forum topic on dead languages and how learning them will help learn their living incarnations. Does anybody know of a comprehensive (preferably online) map of the vast majority of languages and how they are all related.
Thanks in advance,
Ben

Ethnologue's language map by family is the most comprehensive I know of.
Wikipedia's list of language families is a better place to start, if it's a new topic to you, since it makes it easier to find the main ones and orient yourself.
Enjoy.
