If I'm not mistaken, "amok" was imported from the Philippines by the visiting Americans, presumably soldiers,
during the American colonial era in the Philippines. Yes, in Tagalog the word "amok" means pretty much the
same as it does in English.

Another word imported during this time was "boondocks", which came from the word for mountain or
"bundok" in Tagalog.
