According to our members' profiles, one person who must rank amoung the most prominent multi-linguists alive is actually a member of our board. I just find it slightly sad that Enigma has yet to enter his/her first post here to enlighten us about his/her outstanding skills.

Let's get serious here: 22 languages fluently??? You must be kiddin. Talk to us! Or are you Ziad Fazah in disguise...?

I too have been wondering who Enigma is and have been wanting to hear from them on the board.

I have contacted him when I first saw the rather impressive list of languages. The man wants to remain anonymous - hence the nickname - but he accepted to list some details about his specific language skills as a proof of good faith. If you wish to gather questions about his abilities that would not invade his privacy, I will be glad to forward them and he might answer them.

He is neither Ziad Fazah nor Ardaschir, that I can confirm.

I'm just wondering why make an account if you're not going to use it?

I would definately be interested in knowing more about his experiences. What sort of work does he do and what tips can he give the rest of us aspiring polyglots?

It seems like what was most advantageous was that he's actually lived in various countries.

Wouldn't that be amazing, though, to travel the world, and being able talk to almost everyone?

Well, there is no shortage of people who live as expatriates most of their working life in dozens of countries and never learn anything but a couple words. It is an advantage, sure, but the rest of the way you make on foot like everybody else.

I'm much more cynical than all you. My guess is this: he is an expatriate
who has lived in all these countries as an english teacher, learned survival
phrases in all the above languages which enabled to indeed survive there,
and hence became overconfident and deemed himself as being "basically
fluent." Bottom line, he's a fake.

I would be very hesitant to label someone a fake. If he posted all the time bragging about his abilities, perhaps, but this man has done nothing to toot his own horn.

Also, the way I figure is that we lose nothing by having a quiet fake on the board, and stand to gain quite a bit if a genuine hyperglot begins to post.
