Wow - Thank you all for the detailed responses.

@emk - I appreciate your comparison to children. I hadn't thought about that and had been beating myself up a little bit for not making progress as quickly as I would like. I ordered Assimil today so I'll begin that as soon as Amazon can get it to me. I do practice Synergy aloud and my boyfriend corrects me. So I am forcing myself to talk a bit. I just get nervous about throwing words out into the world. Thank you for your encouragement about Peru. I will be staying with my boyfriend's family and it is my hope that I'll be able to understand conversation and that he won't have to constantly translate for me.

@Stelle I will definitely check out Notes in Spanish. Thanks for the recommendation.I so appreciate it.

Thank you all. I know we are all busy and I thank you for taking the time to give me a little boost. It is greatly appreciated!

I have a question about Assimil. I ordered it and it's actually sitting right night to me. But I'm now wondering if I'm going to be thrown off by the Castillan pronounciation (which I'm assuming this has). Any suggestion? Should I just go ahead or will it be frustrating?
Thanks!

Do it. The pronunciation is not an issue. It will sound a bit different, but Spanish is Spanish. Spaniards use some different words, but Assimil is far too good a course not to use simply because it is from Spain. I used Assimil heavily and nobody ever says I sound like a Spaniard... they still say I sound like an American :(

@James29 -
Thanks for your advice. I started Assimil yesterday (Well, I started it and then repeated it today because I realized that I didn't know what I was doing.) I'm excited to begin seeing more progress!
Thanks everyone!
