I'm curious about Matthews' method. I'm thinking of going through the book remembering the hanzi traditional by heisig. I got a lot of responses on this and I think based on my kanji background it makes a lot more sense to start there. My kanji knowledge is incomplete for sure but I did read his first book which introduces a little over 2000. I really don't know how many I remember of those. Any that have been in the Japanese vocab I've studied how ever many that is.

Please include me on your team, fellow Magpies! (Is that the official team name?)
I will be working to improve my Mandarin oral and aural abilities so that I can confidently declare myself a B1.
My log is here: Mithradates' Log
All the Best!

Put me in, Coach!
I didn't want to sign up last year because I was afraid I would bail on you. But, here I am, still logging away in my log after a year and still slogging away at this thing after 2.5 years nonstop (yikes), so why not?
My goal this year is (can I say everything? I want to say everything.) OK, listening ability is probably most important right now. Vocab is in pretty good shape, I know a lot of characters, can piece out the general meaning of most written stuff, but listening really needs help. So let's say listening.

Hi to everybody and since I haven't had time yet to drop by each of you to say so,
welcome to the new teammates! I'll try to drop by before the end of the week but I may
just wait for the opportunity to say something useful! :p
Anyway, what's our final name?? Magpie (鹊)? Bats (蝙蝠)? I'm up for both but the latter
is my favorite! Should we put a deadline before which time we should stop voting?
