Hi guys, I'd like to know if anyone owns an Assimil CD-Rom. For those who do own one, what can you do with the lessons? I would like to know if you can print out individual lessons and if it is possible to copy and paste various parts of the lessons? At the moment I write out each lesson in a Word Document, then I make a large print version, add double spacing between the lines for my translations, blank out words on further copies for review and other activities. Instead of writing out the lessons myself which includes the possibility of typos, I would like to be able to simply copy and paste the lessons and parts thereof.

Does a CD-Rom allow this type of activity or not? I have written to Assimil but haven't received an answer. Thanks for any help.

@Tarvos,

Has Assimil stopped selling the cd-roms?

I know some of the German base courses used to have them. In fact I bought "Amerikanisch
ohne mühe" book, 4 cds and cd- rom for only $5 and $6 for shipping and handling. I just
thought the deal was too good to let go.
That was the only course I bought a cd-rom for, as I don't study in front of the
computer. I have never used the cd-rom, only looked over the book.I

You seem to be very sure of yourself Tarvos. From where do you have your information? According to their website they do sell CD-Roms. Please see the link below. If I'm not mistaken it appears as though they do have CD-Roms in their collection.

I was confused when Tarvos stated, that Assimil does not sell CD-Roms. If he meant it,
as they have stopped selling or they never sold them. I thought he meant the company
stopped, as I stated in my previous post, that I have the German base to learn American
English.

The programs with the CD-Roms are quite expensive, so I just thought it was not worth
it. How I obtained a good deal was a third party merchant. Amazon.ca did have the choice
in selecting programs at certain price ranges. I don't see it any more.

I've just purchased German with Ease in English within the past
week. I ordered the mp3 pack but that still provides physical cd's
to download onto your device plus mobile or kindle friendly copies
of the lessons. The difference from the cd pack is that the lessons
have been broken up in a more user friendly way. I don't know if
you get the digital copies of the lessons with it though.

So you could still by the mp3 version and just use it straight from
the cd's. I splashed out on a basic mp3 player as I didn't have one
already and not only is the assimil 3 clicks away but i've also got
my Hugo course cd's copied over plus various podcasts and a
couple of modern and extremely old songs so i now have
something in my target language I can listen to when on the
move.

The short answer is no, you can't copy and paste or print out the lessons. However all data is kept in simple Microsoft Access database, so with any
programming skills you can easily achieve what you want.

Most German Assimil courses can be obtained on CD-Rom. However, none of the activities you ask about, RogerK,
can be performed with them. What you basically get is an adaptation of the printed and recorded course
components in one handy package. There is also some built-in repetition of sentences you mark as difficult, and
you can record your voice and compare it to the native speaker's pronunciation. I found them a worthwhile
supplement to the classic book-audio-combination.
