I have always been a fan of the late Jim Reeves. He had a beautiful voice and his songs can be downloaded from Youtube. He was killed in a plane crash in 1964, 50 years ago. I downloaded his Afrikaans album and then googled the lyrics. This has been a pleasant way to improve my Afrikaans although his pronunciation needed improvement.
Learning the words to Sarie Marais motivated me to learn about the history of the Boer War. I have learnt several of the songs by heart which is a pleasant way to review vocabulary. Another favourite singer was Francoise Hardy and I have all of her early recordings, googled the words, and know many of her songs by heart. 5 persons have voted this message useful | |

Thanks for this information, Bill! I had no idea that Jim Reeves had recorded songs in Afrikaans. I definitely have to check out those songs!
