Breaking Mezzofanti's record is definitely a dream of mine, but I am wondering if I
started too late for that to be physically possible...
I have the will. I just need to know, is it possible?
*I am 13 and started this year by the way

I don't think it is ever too late.

I mean to learn all of those languages. Did I start too late to have the life time
necessary to learn them all?

Well, I'd say that the hardest challenge would be having the motivation for it. Mezzofanti spent a LOT of time studying, and you'd have to commit your life in the same way to it...

Learning 40 languages to fluency? I think you'd have to live like a monk to learn that
many languages. How many hours of study and practice would be required? You'd have to be
extremely dedicated. I don't think it's practically possible.

You would definitely have your work cut out for you, but if you really had the time and energy, perhaps it could be done, to learn 40 languages to some sort of fluency. Let's think about this a moment:
English
German
Dutch
(West) Frisian
Swedish
Danish
Norwegian
Icelandic
Old English
Afrikaans
Yiddish
French
Spanish
Italian
Portuguese
Romanian
Latin
Polish
Czech
Russian
Ukrainian
Croatian
Bulgarian
etc
Just by learning these you would be over halfway there! The trick would be to learn the languages by family groups, and work the major family groups. In this way, one does not have to spend as much time memorizing vocabulary, and would be able to learn the languages to some sort of fluency at a faster rate. It would still require a lot of time and dedication, but if someone really wanted to do so, it could perhaps be done.
The paradox with languages is that they are most easily learnt when one is young, but one has the most freedom to learn languages (financially, independence, etc) when one is older.

I didn't know you were so young. I suppose if you learn a lot of related languages, it
could be done in a lifetime.
