Hi Mapk,
I tried to send you a pm but it wouldn't go through. Can you please pm me with your email address or Skype name? I would like to send you a very short audio clip where both Wulfgar and I hear the "N" sound in время. I have heard it both ways depending on the source but I clearly hear the "N" sound in this file.
Thank you for all of your help in answering questions for us Russian learners.
*edit* Actually, I'd like to send it to any Russian speakers that are interested. The more opinions the better.

She is clearly pronouncing a soft M, there is nothing common with hard N. The student
says
врэма, she corrects her pronouncing soft M with a schwa.
Other native speakers will tell you the same.

Thank you Mapk. That's what I was expecting you to say. I'll just have to keep listening until I can hear the difference.

Here's another sentence from Penguin (lesson 17)
с десятого ма́я по пятнадцатое = from the 10th thru the 15th of May
They say that the adjective пятнадцатое is in the accusative. Since it's neuter, I assume the noun needs to be
neuter. But май is male, so I'm lost.

There's an implicit neuter word for date there: с десятого по пятнадцатое число.

In lesson 23 of Penguin,
1) it says that "for", as in "The director has gone out for five minutes.", is на + the accusative.
But the sentence is "Директор вышел на пять минут." минут is genitive plural, not accusative, right?
2) in the expression "до того так Мэри поехала в Москву…", could перед be used in some way instead of до того
так?

1) But пять is accusative. Five of minutes (like a dozen of minutes)
2) Yes, перед тем как Мэри поехала в Москву
