Yes you're right, if we speak Spanish it's of the Andalucian variety. I'm the one who didn't fully understand your post.

Should I deduce from your post that Mexican,Columbian and Andalusian writers sound as yokels to you ? Would you throw in Llanito Spanish too ?

Ooooops ... reparation job to be done here. I was a jerk really, not even in English writing forum you can get rid of Andalusians :) Don't take it to hard, I try to stir up the forum with controversial probably silly points. But the point here is that, in spite of my knowing that Andalusians are as intelligent (or not) as the rest, and that nothing is certainly wrong with any accent, that bit of a reaction is trigged in my mind irrationally, and I am just aware that I have a big company on this in all of us using north accent. I remember an instance of walking away from a beautiful blonde Andalucian on the grounds of accent, and feeling stupid and unfair afterwards. This is the kind of information the original poster was after. How many news readers with southern accents broadcast nationwide? they are rarely hired. Like it or not, in our collective linguistic unconscious, northern accent is the one to ideally have. Canarians have told me of on purpose efforts to acquire it. This is never talked about, I could offer my opinion, but who cares about my opinion, the original poster wanted connotations information.
Sorry, EDIT: I forgot to mention that you have shown such a wittiness in your reply, that I am sure with a little effort on my part, any stupid unfair connotation will be overcome and if we ever meet personally I am sure we will do fine. I d love to take you around on my lorry.

Now that wasn't very bright, was it? Worthy of an Andalucian perhaps?

Sigiloso, there is no such thing as a northern accent.Do Gallegos,Vascos,Aragoneses etc. sound the same to you ?
Newsreaders speak in a standard,no-accent,Spanish,just like BBC newsreaders do.
There was a time in Spain, the "una, grande y libre " days, when there was only one acceptable way of speaking and thinking. All the rest were "catetos" and "rojos".If you were educated that way,I can understand your feelings.
I believe that if you were more tolerant of differences you would appreciate the beauty of all the accents and languages of Spain.

like Spanish, Arabic is also spoken over a wide geographical area with many countries somewhere around 20 countries also. and each country has its unique variety and accent.

I would assume that this is similar to English speakers who wanting the 'BBC' standard pronunciation back in the old days. Nowadays, people in the UK are generally a lot more accepting of regional accents. Accents exist in any country you go to. While the majority of them do have an official standard, to say that regional accents do not exist elsewhere would be plain stupidity. As for turning people down for jobs because of their accent, well, discriminating on the grounds of the way one speaks is almost as bad as any other type of discrimination.
I also agree with Lucia that there is bound to be more than just one accent in the north. If you are refering to the 'Madrid' accent, then that is just one of many accents. I'm sure the Catalans, Basques and Galicians all speak Castilian with their own distinct accents.
