I don't understand the point of all this redundant information on so many
of these audio courses. If it was in the language your trying to learn it would be
fine, but its almost always in the language you already know and thus just wasting
time. Rocket Spanish Audio courses did this a lot, so much English for so little
purpose, which is why I stopped after a few lessons. |

Wow really? I really like Rocket Spanish. It reminds me of Assimil only Rocket Spanish
has longer more meaningful dialog and it is Latin American dialect. I also prefer
Rocket Spanish over Assimil because I can listen to it on the go (you don't need a
book). They use English because they are explaining grammar, cultural information
about the words/phrases and usage you simply could not get if everything was in the
target language.
At the beginning of a conversation I can usually understand about 15-20% of a
conversation. After the 25 minute lesson I find I can understand about 80%. I
normally listen to each lesson twice. By the 2nd time I can normally understand about
95% of the conversation then I move on. You can do all of this by just listening
while walking or driving. You don't need a book to follow. I normally do one
lesson a day which takes about 50 minutes since I listen to each one twice.
The biggest downside of Rocket Spanish is you have to buy 3 different levels
separately and is very expensive to get all 3. Assimil is much cheaper and everything
is in one level, but it only comes in Spanish from Spain, the audio is kind of old and
not the best quality, accents are not very pleasing to listen to, and the book text
layouts look very unprofessional.
I just finished level 1 (of 3) of Rocket Spanish (about 30 lessons) and I really like
it. I also really like Pimsluer. I use both together. Rocket Spanish for listening
comprehension (like Assimil) and Pimsluer for speaking practice. I am on lesson 29 of
Pimsluer level 1 so I am just a beginner at all of this. I feel like I have made
really good progress for a month and a half of learning.
