Getting French TV via the internet | ||

I remember when I first got on exchange to Switzerland, watching TV helped me immensely to learn my German. This was back before there was any internet. If there had been an internet, I could have watched German-language TV before actually going to a German-speaking country.
Today I'm learning French. I had hoped that my TV provider, DirectTV, would offer French stations. No such luck. They offer Spanish, Russian, Mandarin, and some other languages, but no French. Fortunately, I found this really cool Canadian web page with lots of links you can click on to get French-Canadian TV: http://watch.squidtv.net/americas/canada.html I'm sure I can find similar pages for TV stations from France, French-language Switzerland, and other countries as well. I've been thinking of hooking up a Roku device to my TV to expand its channels. ( http://www.amazon.com/Roku-XS-1080p-Streaming-Player/dp/B005 CLPP84/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1360298568&sr=8-1&keywords=Rok u) They advertise that Roku seamlessly integrates channels from TV sites like Hulu and Netflix. However, will I be able to use such a device to integrate the stations available in that French-Canadian TV link and other French TV sites? I would much rather come home and take it easy, watching French TV on a nice TV in a comfy chair than have to watch it on a laptop or a desktop. 3 persons have voted this message useful | |||

If you're in the US, and you have a an extra $34/month to spend, check out VoilaTV. It plugs into your internet connection and your TV, and it works more or less like a normal cable TV box, with a remote control and everything. It's pretty strong on things like France 2, France 3, etc., and it has lots of news channels. It's less useful if you're mostly into TV series and movies. 2 persons have voted this message useful |
