How to grade sentences in Anki or SRS | ||

Sorry if this has been covered here before; I tried searching but to no avail.
How do you Anki/SRS users grade your sentences? Do you pass it if you can understand all parts of the entire sentence, or do you pass it if you understand only the word/collocation that you are trying to learn? For example, I have cards set up like this in the two languages that I'm studying: JAPANESE Front: 私は 彼が何をしようと構わない。 Back: 構う（かまう） - to care; to mind PORTUGUESE: Front: Amanhã não é feriado nacional, mas depois-de-amanhã é. Back: depois-de-amanhã - day after tomorrow Let me use the Portuguese example above for the following question. Let's say that I remember what depois-de-amanhã is, but I forgot what feriado means. In that case, would you fail the card anyway? There is no information about feriado on the back side of the card because feriado is covered in another card. This card is to learn depois-de-amanhã, so if I remember it, shouldn't I pass it? Any advice would be helpful. It depends on what I want to achieve with a deck. Generally, when I want to use a deck for vocabulary study, I use sample sentences in which all other words are known.
And when I notice I forgot a word, I mark the card and make sure to review the forgotten word as well. When I just put in the sentence for familiarization I sometimes pass it when I can read the sample sentence but don't know the exact translation. But that habit leads to annoying situations where I can read something but have no idea what it means ... 2 persons have voted this message useful | |

Depends on yourself, really.
For sentences where the focus of the card is on one thing in particular, if I get that thing right I pass the card. Understanding the whole sentence (or parts of it) is only important if the vocab/grammar point requires it. For example in Japanese context determines quite often what a grammar point or a word means in that particular sentence. Thus I may need to understand more of the sentence to get the grammar/word correct. Honestly, I don't like cramming each card with too many things I need to understand to get it correct. Surely using the knowledge you already have is beneficial, as you can make the sentences more complex depending on your skill level. But if there are three grammar points and 4 vocab in the sentence I still haven't quite grasped (or even seen) then that sentence needs reworking.
