In his book Barry Farber advices to mentally rehearse situations (for example, if you
bumped into a man, what would you say). I took this as a guideline and made my own
version of it.
I created for myself a "second life" in my mind. There I'm married to an Italian girl,
have a house, a car, and work in the office (it would be redundant to say that IRL I am
single, live in an apartment, have no car and am not employed). I describe my wife and
my house, practice conversations with her, invite guests and so on.
This method gave me many benefits. First, I am immersed in Italian. Second, I memorize
the words bcause they are about topic that's interesting to me. Third, I improve my
skills of visualization and world-building.
What do you think?

Its a good method - similar to the 'language islands' described by Boris Shekhtman in How
to Improve Your Foreign Language Immediately.

I talk to myself because my polyglot friends do it too, but also because Tim Doner mentioned doing it and
I figured that young man knows what he's doing. My friends talk to themselves in the showers. I've
gleaned other methods from reading this site. I also practice phone calls when I'm on the bus or walking
around without my iPod and its podcasts. I've never imagined giving myself a wife though! That's a great
idea.

It sounds a lot like Arekkusu's self-talk exercise. Check it out, the tips for improving pronunciation are useful.

Mia moglie Sara ha ventiquattro anni. Si presenta come una modella (obviously) con occhi
azzurri, capelli bruni e gambe lunghi. E' alta.
Era cantante (I watch Dick Van Dyke Show), ma ora e' una commessa e vende profumi in un
negizio indossando un vestito rosa.
Non abbiamo mai litigati.

Oh, by the way, viviamo negli anni ottanta.

Hmmm, the Italian version of a 24 year old Mary Tyler Moore living in the 1980's! Well, if you're going to imagine, why not!
