In the past few weeks, since I've started learning Thai, I've visited a number of
bookstores close to my house to look at the foreign language section, and I've noticed
a recurring pattern. There will usually only be 1 resource (sometimes 2 maximum) for
Thai, but there will be 3-5 resources each for Vietnamese and Tagalog.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is the same pattern true at the bookstores near you, and
do you think it might representative of the number of Thai vs. Vietnamese vs. Tagalog
resources in general?
I have a "Teach Yourself Thai" course that I'm happy with, and I'm getting a lot of my
immersion environment that's basically free, so it's not that I'm desperate for Thai
resources. I just find it odd because Thailand is a country that attracts *a lot* of
tourists - more than Vietnam or the Philippines. Theoretically, it seems like Thai
should have more people learning it, whereas outside of polyglot/language nerd circles
like this, I've never met that many people learning Vietnamese or Tagalog.
What do you think?

In Canada, there's a huge wave of immigration from the Philippines. I think that immigration from the Philippines
has grown something like 60% in the past few years. That might have something to do with it!
That said, according to my filipino husband, most of the learning resources out there for Tagalog are pretty bad. So
more doesn't necessarily mean better! ;)

My Bookstore just had 1x Thai and 1x Vietnamese Course.
But in general it seems to be easier to get Thai Courses than Vietnamese or Tagalog courses here.I know around 3-4 Thai Courses but just 2x Vietnamese and 1 for Tagalog. And for Thai i even heard about intensive Course.
