Hey guys, I've searched a bit but couldn't find an answer: does anyone here have any experience with
Linguaphone's Swedish course? If so, which version would probably be best? I know the general consensus
seems to be that older language courses in general were more substantive, but I'm not even sure how many
versions they made
for Swedish.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I know that they made at least two versions because I have them both. One is from the late 50's/early 60's, the other is from the mid 70's. They are both so good that I couldn't choose between them to recommend to you. Get both if you can - they complement each other nicely. The content is completely different so there is not much overlap in vocabulary and you can learn a lot from both. The older one mirrors the standard Linguaphone lesson plan, while the newer one is more specifically about Swedish society. I don't have the audio for the older course, but the recordings for the newer one are very nicely done indeed.

I have the 1970s version and I think it's very good. It was my very first course I tried when I started learning Swedish and I consider it the best one. As you'd expect from Linguaphone it covers a wide range of subjects and situations.

I think the general view on Linguaphone courses is that the 1970s iterations are the
best they issued. That is certainly my opinion.

I got the Swedish in a damaged stock sale from Linguaphone (the damage was a slightly
waterstained cover on one of the books) and, although I haven't done the course, it
looks very good.

Thanks a lot guys! Sounds like I'll be in good shape with either one, but I'm going to try and find both if
possible. I like buying things.
