In my dialect, they're actually pronounced differently, namely the latter is pronounced
with a "thick l" (retroflex flap).

Well, I guess you could say I slipped when I was in kindergarten. One of my friends
was speaking to his sister in Spanish and I kept hearing him use English words here
and there. I laughed hysterically because I thought it was funny. I think we were much
too young for him to be offended in any way though. At a young age, I became
accustomed to others speaking English words in their language, as I was surrounded
by several of them (Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, Spanish). I still slip and giggle
when I hear it on TV, or during language learning. :)

There was one time I saw a man walking down the street having a loud conversation on his
mobile phone, mainly in what I think was Arabic, but punctuated by loud and clear English
swear words. I was more amused than offended.
