Hi,

The same-titled thread from the forum is a few years old and I'd like to hear the latest information on this type of tool for learning/speaking, so let's update this topic. What's your favorite online language exchange site?

Please give your reviews!

I just posted this comment in another thread, but realized that it's technically more appropriate to add it here too.

The Mixxer is a good Skype-based language exchange database. It lets you search for native and learning languages, and shows you if the other person is online on Skype.

I've done a couple of chats, and they all went well. I think the one problem with chats is finding stuff to talk about. There's another language exchange site called
My Language Exchange that I think has more members and a wider range of "exchange types" (pen pal, text chat, voice chat ...). It also has the advantage of having chat lesson plans that give you suggested topics, a list of questions to ask, and a timer to make sure the conversation is evenly split between your target language, and your native language (which is presumably the target language of your interlocutor).

Yeah, but don't you have to pay to be a member who can access all the options?

There is a lot of Spanish, french, mandarin, German, etc.

I have even found speakers for Hebrew.

There's a page on the LearnAnyLanguage wiki listing some Language learning communities. It would be great if people could post some reviews of the sites they've used and liked (or, used and disliked).
