I've used Sharedtalk quite a few times, and their email system is very frustrating. It's very difficult to correct language mistakes for a correspondent because there is only one font, in one size, in black-and-white only. So you can't, for instance, cross out a misspelled word and add one with the correct spelling. It's a real pain in the behind, so you find yourself only correcting really gross mistakes and letting a lot of minor ones slide.
Their software has been in the beta stage for a very long time, and I suppose they're not going to improve it any. I don't recommend the site at all.

Okay, I've tried 2 other sites this evening:
1) Lang-8. It sounds good when you read about the site... "Post your own writings and have native speakers correct your writing." But the only languages I saw were Asian languages and English. Also, most of the postings I saw had no responses. Admittedly, I wasn't there very long once I saw the limited number of languages represented, so there may be many postings with responses.
2) Babbel. This also looks like it has promise. I wasn't there very long (It's waaay past time for bed!) but my initial impressions are (1) its offerings are limited (No French tutorials "yet".) because apparently it's very new, and (2) the users' actual, real names, along with their photos and cities of residence, are available to other users. This is really stupid! I mean, it's common for a site to ask for your name when you sign up, but if I'd known they would PUBLISH it, I would have used a fake name! Let me choose who knows who I really am! Anyway, that's how I feel about it.
I'll post again when I try Babbel further.

It started - I think! - as a Japanese-English exchange site, but today it covers many languages. I am not studying either Asian languages nor English, and still find it useful. I have had all my entries corrected.
Many HTLAL users are active on Lang-8.

I paid for a 3-month subscription to MyLanguageExchange using some money I had earned from article marketing and so far out of 21 messages sent I've received one reply from a Japanese woman who told me she already had a partner. Her profile changed after she sent the message to "Woman only!".
That was quite disappointing, but I'll wait and hope for any replies.
lang-8 is dominated by native speakers of Asian languages, but there are a fair number of European language native speakers as well, especially for the more common ones (French, Italian, Spanish, Swedish, Russian, Polish etc).

Can either one of you tell me how and what you did to find French speakers on Lang-8?
Alkeides, my experience with MyLanguageExchange was similar to yours. I specifically stated that I was looking for French speakers living in the US, and I got one response, from someone with poor French who was living in the middle east.
Thanks for your responses; I would really like to use Lang-8 for French, but how to do it wasn't evident to me.

I have also had my French text corrected by native speakers. If you correctly set the "Please help me with my ..." box when writing your journal to French, then that post will get displayed to the (admittedly few) native French speakers on the lang-8.

Also try just try to search for native speakers using their search tool and just add as many of them as possible. Don't be put off be by bare profiles, my own profile is pretty bare too ;p.
