I think Cainntear's explanation was right on.
Personally, I hear "low-cut" most often.
I would say that in fashion/clothing terminology, I sometimes hear the term "wide-neck" in reference to tops but these aren't the same as low/plunging/low-cut tops.

Yep, men have cleavage (no "s" on the end) too. It's also called man cleavage or heavage.
And then there's side cleavage, bottom cleavage, butt cleavage. Someone could (and
probably has) write a whole dissertation on the topic. |

Im a native English speaker and i have never heard "cleavage" used for a man.
