I have bought the "Big red book of of Spanish Idioms", and I like it. It goes both ways, so that you can find Spanish equivalents to English ideoms and viceversa. The only problem s that it is too big to carry around in a pocket.

Hi James, two books I like are Barron's Spanish Idioms book, and The Ultimate Spanish Phrase Finder. The advantage
of the Barron's book is its portability, while the Ultimate Spanish Phrase Finder is larger and more complete. I prefer
to study idioms on the go, and therefore prefer the smaller Barron's. I don't know if they're the best books for
Spanish idioms, but I think they should serve the needs of most Spanish learners well.

These responses are very helpful. I appreciate your thoughts. I have seen the Barrons one and it does look pretty good. I have heard of the Big Red one, but I have not seen it. I will look into the "ultimate" one in more detail. The one that caught my eye recently at the bookstore was a brand new one by Merriam-Webster. It looked like it would be interesting to read and it was only a couple bucks. I went online to buy it and I found a bunch of other idioms books and got concerned about which would be the best to buy. Knowing me I will probably end up buying all of them. Anyway, thanks much for your input and any other suggestions are welcome.

Edit: the "ultimate" book and the big red book both look great. Thanks again.

I am again looking at books on Spanish idioms.

I recenetly finished Cassell's Colloquial Spanish as recommended by Randomreview from this forum. I highly recommend this book.

I am now looking at the above mentioned books and also the "Red Hot Book on Spanish Slang and Idioms" which looks great.

I would appreciate any further input anyone has before I dive into another one of these types of books.

I kind of like Mexican Spanish and so am a bit curious about the two "Speaking Spanish like a native"
books by Brad Kim, which I have heard are essentially something like the Keenan and Cassell books, but
for colloquial Mexican. I actually have the "Ultimate Spanish Phrasefinder" book: great reference book but
far too big (comprehensive) and dry for me to try and learn systematically from. It's worth buying as a
reference tool (how do I say X in Spanish?"); but I'd probably get something else as well if you want
something to use like the Keenan book.

Cool. That "Speaking Spanish Like a Native" looks good. I am not really super interested in Mexican Spanish, but, that is the type of book I need and Spanish is Spanish. I like these types of books that are essentially vocabulary books written mostly in English. They are great for low intensity study time... like on the beach or in the gym.

If anyone has experience with the Red Hot Book on Spanish Slang and Idioms I'd be interested to hear it. The free preview on Amazon makes it look great.
