I have used quite a lot of these in the past:
Easy Readers I haven't checked to see if they have them on Amazon, but at least they used to be common in bookshops with a foreign language section, and in some libraries. 4 persons have voted this message useful | |

Not strictly a reader but I can recommend Living German by R. W. Buckley. The book covers A1 and A2 material, and is well-known for its superb pacing. Each chapter comprises a short text, vocabulary list, grammar explanations and exercises. The texts aren't very meaty until the halfway mark, but even as a B1 I am enjoying working through it from the beginning.
