Hi folks,
I've been casually learning Swedish over the past few months with Rosetta Stone. I thought it was neat at first, but I've begun to feel I'm not really getting anywhere. My feeling is that the program is pretty good for giving users the hang of grammar and speaking the language, but vocabulary-wise it's insufferably slow-moving. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good Swedish vocabulary book from which I can learn new words as I continue to get the hang of the language? A downloadable online file would also be okay (assuming it had English translations), but I'd really prefer to get a good book if there's one out there. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Haha, you're far more positive towards Rosetta Stone than most on these forums. Sometimes I think that "Rosetta Stone is crap" is the only thing we all agree on here.
Anyway, I can't help you with vocabulary books, but if a downloadable file is ok, you could try Anki. It's a flashcard program that will help you memorize words very efficiently, as you grade yourself and the program tells you which cards you need to revise every day, making sure you don't forget and don't revise words you already know well. A quick search of the shared decks reveals plenty of Swedish decks availible for free download. Lycka till med svenskan! 4 persons have voted this message useful | |||

Is an illustrated thematic vocabulary suitable even if it doesn’t have English translations? If so, take a look at my posts (nr. 19 & 22) here where you can find the links to and some observations about Bildteman (with its downloadable jpg files) and Animationsteman. Thank you both! The reason I'm leaning more towards a book is because I already spend 40 hours a week staring at a computer screen, and I'd like to do less of that in my free time. But that said, these resources look really useful, and I can't wait to check them out.
