It seems that this topic has been dead for a while. Nevertheless - maybe there's someone else who'd like to learn Uzbek? I find this language very interesting. + I like some Uzbek pop songs. The minus is that for me probably better would be to learn Turkish first. I will look for such possibility, maybe as a student of Iranian language and culture I'd be able to attend Turkish classes, but it depends on hours of classes and so on. But if - then Uzbek will wait.
As a boost - nice Uzbek song:

There is not a lot for learning Uzbek for the English speaker. It is related to Turkish, but not all that closely, certainly not as close as Azeri. Like others, I think if you want to learn a language you should learn it, not go for a related language. The problem then is the dearth of learning resources.

I think, you can learn Turkish first. Because you can find a lot of sources on Turkish on the net.
After having learned Turkish, you can learn Uzbek in 2-3 weeks.

You can't learn any language in 2-3 weeks and Uzbek and Turkish are sufficiently different to make an easy transition from one language to the other one highly unlikely. You seem to be seriously underestimating the differences which exist between various Turkic languages.
