I am attaching a link to a website that is commercial in nature, but they have a free audio book - A Moi Paris - involving relatively simple French spoken slowly, with transcript. I have only listened/read a couple of chapters: so far, there is a high-speed train involved, but no car chases or gun fights yet, and I have learned that the French apparently eat ham butter sandwiches, which just sounds wrong, but there ya go. There are also some related exercises off to the left. You have to register to access for free anything following chapitre 1, and I assume that means getting bombarded with emails in due course, but if you use a ghost gmail account, you will be safe.
