I've written a silly conversation in French to help me learn. I had it corrected by native speakers at Language 8, so I cannot take full credit for its current condition. I'm going to use software to digitize it to an MP3 and then listen to it on my MP3 player. I find this helps me to learn. I did so with a previous conversation that I wrote.
Perhaps people here would be willing to give it a look just in case any errors slipped by. Of course use it for learning if you would like to. I'm including the English translation afterwards. Sarah et Annette se rencontrent Sarah : Salut, Annette ! Comment ça va ? Annette : Bonjour ! Je suis très heureuse de te voir. Ça fait un bail. Sarah : C'est vrai. Tu m'a manqué. Annette : Ce parc est très beau, n'est-ce pas ? Sarah : Oui, c'est beau. Je viens toujours ici à cause de la très belle mare. Annette : Je suis d'accord. J'aime cette mare. Sarah : Dis … j'ai besoin d'aide. Est-ce que tu peux m'aider ? Annette : Qu'est-ce que tu veux ? Sarah : Dans ce sac j'ai un scaphandre. J'aurai bientôt besoin de me cacher dans la mare. Il est très important que personne ne me voie. Annette : Est-ce que tu es folle ? Certainement, il est interdit de faire de la plongée sous-marine dans la mare du parc. Sarah : Tu devrais m'aider. C'est très important. Annette : Qui es-tu ? Alexandra Cousteau ? Sarah : Regarde. J'ai un vélo. Annette : Et alors ? Sarah : J'ai aussi un pistolet, un Colt .45. Regarde. Annette : Tu es dingue ! C'est illégal ! Sarah : Ce n'est pas illégal aux États-Unis. Annette : On n'est pas aux États-Unis. On est au Canada. Ton pistolet n'est pas légal ici. Un flic pourrait t'arrêter. Sarah : Et alors ? J'ai besoin d'avoir mon pistolet. J'aimerais voler la banque là-bas. Je la volerai et ensuite, je prendrai mon vélo. Ensuite, je me cacherai sous l'eau de la mare avec mon argent. Annette : Est-ce que tu es devenue folle ? Sarah : Peut-être, mais je veux de l'argent. Annette : Je ne serai pas complice de ça. Sarah : Tu devras m'aider. Tu es ma meilleure amie. Je t'aime. Annette : Je ne suis pas obligé de t'aider juste parce que je suis ton amie. Sarah : Quelle rabat-joie. Annette : Ouais. Je préfère être rabat-joie que de te voir en prison. Sarah : Tu ne t'amuses jamais. Sarah and Annette Meet Sarah: Hi, Annette! How are you? Annette: Hello! I'm very happy to see you. It's been a while. Sarah: That's true. I've missed you. Annette: This park is very beautiful, isn't it? Sarah: Yes, it's beautiful. I always come to this park because of the beautiful pond here. Annette: I agree. I love the pond. Sarah: Say … I need help. Can you help me? Annette: What do you want? Sarah: In this bag I have a scuba diving suit. Soon I need to hide myself underwater in the pond. It's very important that no one see me. Annette: Are you crazy? It's certainly against the rules to scuba dive in the park's pond. Sarah: You should help me. It's very important. Annette: Who are you? Alexandra Cousteau? Sarah: Look. I have a bike. Annette: So? Sarah: I have a handgun, a Colt .45. Look. Annette: You're nuts! That's illegal! Sarah: It's not illegal in the United States. Annette: We're not in the United States. We're in Canada. Your gun is not legal here. A cop could arrest you. Sarah: So what? I need to have my gun. I'd like to rob the bank over there. I'm going to rob it and then I'm going to ride my bike back here. Then I'm going to hide underwater in the pond with my money. Annette: Have you gone mad? Sarah: Perhaps, but I want money. Annette: I won't be complicit in this. Sarah: You should help me. You're my best friend. I love you. Annette: I'm not obligated to help you just because I'm your friend. Sarah: Killjoy. It is not an error per se but I was surprised by the word "mare" because I personally use it and hear it very rarely. Did you choose the word "mare" rather than "étang" on purpose for comic relief or because you did not know the difference ? If it is the 2nd option, here is a link that explains it : http://www.la-difference-entre.com/difference.php?id=mare-et ang. Basically, there is not set criteria but a "mare" is usually even smaller and less deep than an "étang". It is more like a duck pond or a pool (as in blood pool or as there could be a pool of gas on the floor after you work on your car). If you did know and chose on purpose, just ignore my comment.
I have a similar comment for "scaphandre". While it is a correct way to designate any kind of diving gear, I think that when they hear the word "scaphandre", most people picture the super heavy diving suits that were used at the start of scuba-diving but have been more or less abandoned since the 1950's (you can google image it if you do not see what I mean). If you meant more contemporary diving gear, I would suggest "combinaison de plongée" or "équipement de plongée" instead. But maybe it was for comic relief and I have missed the whole point. I am really splitting hairs here and your choice of words is not incorrect. 1 person has voted this message useful |
