svømmepøl = popular Danish version of "swimming pool". The joke is that a 'pøl' normally is a small dirty pond or water left by rain, and 'at pøle ned' as a verb is used derogatively about hefty drinking or incessantly pouring rain. Therefore travel agencies use the English word "pool" in their catalogues

The same word for two very different methods (one cheap and the other expensive) to cross water in two similar languages. I wonder whether it is just a coincidence :)
